The administration carried out strict enforcement action on Bankra Bridge over the Howrah-Amta Road in Howrah district to address severe traffic congestion caused by an illegally formed toto stand. The operation was conducted to restore smooth vehicular movement on the busy route, which had been experiencing frequent traffic jams.
The Howrah Kona Traffic Guard conducted a special enforcement drive on Thursday, targeting e-rickshaws (totos) that were illegally stopping and picking up passengers on the bridge. Officials, along with police personnel, carried out a sudden raid as part of the operation to clear the congestion-prone area.
During the drive, several e-rickshaws operating from the unauthorized stand were seized by police. The affected route had been facing daily traffic disruption, causing inconvenience to commuters and office-goers. Authorities also warned several toto drivers and released them on the spot.
The drivers were instructed not to set up or operate any unauthorized toto stand on Bankra Bridge in the future under any circumstances. The enforcement action was carried out to regulate traffic movement and prevent further obstruction on the stretch.
